# Having issues installing on macOS

Hey all,

Brand new user to nextstrain and pretty knew to CLI and informatics in general. I’m trying to follow the guidelines to installing Nextstrain to my macOS and when I run the first suggested line:

curl -fsSL --proto ‘=https’ [https://nextstrain.org/cli/installer/mac](https://nextstrain.org/cli/installer/mac) | bash

I’m running into this error:

_curl: (60) SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate_  
_More details here: [curl - SSL CA Certificates](https://curl.haxx.se/docs/sslcerts.html)_

_curl performs SSL certificate verification by default, using a “bundle”_  
_of Certificate Authority (CA) public keys (CA certs). If the default_  
_bundle file isn’t adequate, you can specify an alternate file_  
_using the --cacert option._  
_If this HTTPS server uses a certificate signed by a CA represented in_  
_the bundle, the certificate verification probably failed due to a_  
_problem with the certificate (it might be expired, or the name might_  
_not match the domain name in the URL)._  
_If you’d like to turn off curl’_

Any suggestions on how to navigate this? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi @ARsignal11, welcome! Sorry to hear that you’re running into an issue right off the bat. This error suggests a system configuration issue on your computer that’s preventing a secure connection to [nextstrain.org](http://nextstrain.org). We’ll try to troubleshoot it for you.

Gathering some more information is the first step. Can you run the following two commands and then upload the `debug.txt` file they produce?

```auto
curl --version &>> debug.txt
curl --verbose --head https://nextstrain.org &>> debug.txt

```
